I am a historian of science who has long been fascinated by the way creatures move through the air. In addition to academic writing, I have published short stories, non-fiction pieces in flying magazines, a novella (a coming-of-age story about a vegetarian buzzard) and a novel (love, death, chemistry, and flying in the Australian outback between the two world wars). My memoir about flying, Skybound, will appear in 2026 from Bass Clef Books. I live with my wife and write in Berea, Kentucky and Northfield, Minnesota.
Thanks to my wife, Libby Falk Jones, for use of her photographs of me in the air and on the ground.
